A denture is a replacement for missing teeth and adjacent gum tissues. It is removable & is made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. It is easy to place and remove & usually kept out of mouth at night (in a container filled with water). Complete dentures replace all the teeth, while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position. Complete dentures are of two types, either “conventional” or “immediate.”

A conventional denture is fabricated after about a month once all the teeth are extracted for the gums to heal properly.

An immediate denture is placed as soon as the teeth are removed usually during the same appointment. This results in the patient walking out with immediate denture teeth, but the downside is that this will need more adjustments as the gums heal and shrink.
